Manufacturing USA consists of multiple linked Manufacturing Innovation Institutes. Each has a unique technological concentration but is also designed to accelerate U.S. advanced manufacturing as a whole. These NIST institutes are private-public partnerships that foster collaboration among industry, academia, nonprofits, and government agencies. Through the institutes, these stakeholders work to accelerate U.S. innovation and to increase U.S. competitiveness by investing in industrially relevant, cross-cutting advanced manufacturing products and resources. NC State University is directly involved in seven of the 14 Manufacturing USA Institutes — the most of any university in the country. NC State Industry Expansion Solutions (IES), as administrator for the North Carolina Manufacturing Extension Partnership, is directly involved in: NIMBL and PowerAmerica.
